On the Prop’s team at Wayfair, we periodically held imagery contests. One of the last contests we had on the Asset Services Team was an open-ended prompt with the theme “save the fish.” We had a prop in our asset library that was a goldfish in a tiny goldfish bowl not particularly suited for an actual real fish, so the theme for the contest revolved around giving the fish a better home. Around the same time, I was playing in a D&D campaign set in Waterdeep during the Dragonheist adventure events. In my group’s story, we defeated the Xanathar and found his fish, so we took it home with us, along with all the loot from the lair.

For my entry in the contest, I created a scene based on our party’s story and decided to remake the prop as Sylgar, the Xanathar’s fish. I based the container on the design of the bowl on the front of Xanathar’s guide and featured the loot in the background.
